Re-entering Workforce in Texas.
The purpose of this website is to assist older individuals to re-enter the workforce in Texas. Older individuals might have experienced a lapse in work due to family obligations, health issues, layoffs, career changes, or legal issues.
Life-Span, Life-Space Theory
Today, the cost of living going up and new work requirements is increasing the need to return to the workforce (Joyce, 2025). For older adults returning to the workforce there can be numerous potential barriers. Adults can take on many roles in their life, such as: Maintaining a home (homemaker), taking care of children (Parent), Taking care of parents (child), while trying to maintain a balance for emotional health (Niles, et al, 2001).
While adding or expanding roles (such as worker) one should be prepared for role collisions creating stress and anxiety (Niles, et al, 2001).

Reflect on life roles, personality, interests, and values to help create a clear career goal, and build a resume.

Reduce role collisions and stress, community resources have been provided to address concerns such as financial disparities, food insecurities, child/elderly care, employment development and skills training.

Encourage reflection, planning, and community support for older adults to plan their career goals and pathway to success.

Develop plans to create a healthy work life balance by incorporating intentional leisure time
(Career = Work + Leasure)

Resources to Help with Workforce Re-Entry
Often times people feel pressured into taking the first job offered regardless of what meets there needs (Altman, 1997). As explored in the Life Role Rainbow life roles can create pressures: such as child care, bills to be paid and other life obligations. Below one can find community-based resources that can help address pressure while exploring career options.
